Apache arrow

Hi

Looking to see if anyone has used Apache Arrow format natively in a Bokeh viz? If so can you provide an example. If not .. is this something could see in the future supporting ?

Thanks,
Mark G.

Hi,

By natively, I assume you mean the data hits the browser directly in Arrow table format? I have spoken with Wes about this in passing. I think this would be a great demonstration. It's not something I can personally prioritize at the moment. But I think someone familiar with using Arrow from JavaScript could make a custom ArrowDataSource extension for Bokeh with some help/guidance. I'd be happy to engage with anyone that wants to work on this. The docs for creating custom extensions are here:

  https://bokeh.pydata.org/en/latest/docs/user_guide/extensions.html

Alternatively, if you mean can data read in using the Python API for Arrow be used, I think that's probably already possible. Just put the columns in a CDS. Though it's possible there may be extra copies along the way or improvements that could be made. Again, I'm happy to engage/advise anyone who'd like to work on this idea.

Thanks,

Bryan
