Develop mode - how is it working

Hello,

I tried to find more information about the status of the develop mode of Bokeh, but I couldn’t find anything in the docs.

Did I miss something?

Also, I got it running with my project, yet it does not reload the python file when changes have occur in it. It still serves the original version instead…

What am I doing wrong?

I would very much like to use it, it looks like a terrific help for developing graphs…

Thanks in advance,

C

Christophe,

You are not doing anything wrong, it is just that "bokeh develop" is still a feature under development, and is not available yet. It's possible we prematurely mentioned it without clarifying that? If you can let me know where you saw it referred to, I will try to make any corrections to make that more clear. It's my hope that it will be ready for an upcoming 0.12 release.

Thanks,

Bryan

I’d like to confirm that bokeh serve --develop still does nothing. I want to be able to edit files in my bokeh app source directory and for the app and all browser tabs with active sessions for the app to refresh. Is this the intended functionality of --develop?

That is the
intention. It still does nothing indeed.

The stub code for "--develop" that had been unintentionally and accidentally left in the "bokeh serve" command has been removed in this PR:

remove develop mode stub code for server by bryevdv · Pull Request #5373 · bokeh/bokeh · GitHub

It will be restored someone has the opportunity to spend time on implementing the feature for real.

Thanks,

Bryan

Thank you both!

For anyone who comes across this thread, my current workaround is the one-liner

while true; do ag -l | entr -rd bokeh serve ; done

``

This restarts a bokeh serve process when any files change or are added/deleted in the current directory. I couple this with LiveReload in my browser with a short refresh delay. Hacky, but it suits my needs for now.

Thanks,

Donny
