Invalid URI when run the command `show` with `output_file`

When trying to use the function show with output_file('test.html) I receive the following error message:

<?xml version="1.0"?>

<env:Envelope xmlns:env=“http://www.w3.org/2001/12/soap-envelope”><env:Body xmlns:rox=“http://rox.sourceforge.net/SOAP/ROX-Filer”><env:Fault xmlns:rpc=“http://www.w3.org/2001/12/soap-rpc” xmlns:env=“http://www.w3.org/2001/12/soap-envelope”>Failed’/root/wintergreen/bokehIB/test2.html’ is not a valid URI</env:Fault></env:Body></env:Envelope>

``

The file test.html gets created, but no browser windows pops up to show it.

How to resolve that?

Thx!

Hi,

That XML is not generated by Python itself, or by Bokeh. Are you running this code on some remote computer or server? The show function will only be able to work on a local machine, i.e. laptop or desktop right in front of you.

Thanks,

Bryan

Hi Bryan, thanks for your reply.

No, I was running this code on my local computer.

Any simple example yields this result.

I will make some more test and see if i can add some useful information to the discussion.

Best,

Vi

Hi,

I don't really have any ideas offhand then. Bokeh just uses the built-in Python standard library "webbrowser" module to raise a browser window:

  21.1. webbrowser — Convenient Web-browser controller — Python 3.6.15 documentation

So if it's not working, then the problem must be somewhere downstream. Where is all the XML coming from? Are you trying to run inside some IDE like pycharm or vscode?

Thanks,

Bryan
