Strange issue with safari browser on IOS

Community Support

I have a really annoying issue that I cannot explain.

My bokeh server application is a thing of pure beauty on chrome (linux, windows and android), MS explorer/edge (win) and firefox (win / linux / android).

Unfortunately, my colleague who uses safari on IOS is unable to appreciate it in its full splendor, as one of the plots (thick, colored line segments) renders in two shades of grey on his mac! The other plots on the same page (shape glyphs) render in color.

I have no idea what would cause this, has anyone seen this behavior before?

I've never encountered anything like this before. My day-to-day for development is OSX / Safari, but I have occasion to look at things on iOS with some regularity. Is it possible to share either code that reproduces the issue, or a URL to some Bokeh document that exhibits the problem?

Thanks,

Bryan

Hi Bryan,

I have attached an html file which contains an export of the problematic figure. I have confirmed with my colleague that this displays without color on his system - OSX 10.11.5 and safari 9.1.1, but displays with color on his system using firefox or chrome.

Thanks,

Guy

Is there a place you can host this file temporarily? I can’t get it to open in a browser, even tried saving to gdrive etc, but it never offers safari as an option for opening.

Confirm it only shows grey. Not an iOS experienced dev by any stretch so it will take some time and effort to even get set up to look at it. (I’m not sure how to even get logs offhand). I can guarantee it will be this week. Can you make an issue with this link/file so it can tracked?

Thanks,

Bryan

Hi Bryan,

I have figured out what is causing this. The issue is my code, not Bokeh.

Looking at the json representation of the problem plot, the colors appear as

[“#cc6683”],“Silver”,[“#83cc66”],[“#83cc66”],“Silver”,[“#83cc66”]

The colors which do not display are present as single-element lists due to me misusing a pandas dataframe. When I correct that so that the hex colors are strings, the plot displays correctly.

It is interesting that chrome, firefox and explorer all render the single element lists as colors, while safari does not. I assume that the safari behavior is the correct behavior.

Thanks for your help

Guy
