If I understand correctly, currently the only way to represent categorical data in CDS (at JS-side) is strings.
Are there any plans to implement int-codes and mapping {code:“string”} (like Pandas does)? It will be actual for large datasets.

@dinya the idea has been casually floated in the past a few times, but it was never acted on. Nothing is planned at all, in the sense that apart from some specific funded grant work, all the work of Bokeh is undertaken purely by self-directed volunteers. In any case I don’t see any issue for this suggestion, so if you’d like to try to make a case for it, a persuasive GitHub Issue is the first step.
